Debates? We don't need no stinking debates!
TWO PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES will take to the debate stage tonight in Atlanta and the ultimate loser will be America.
Months ahead of a normal debate schedule, this will be the first time a sitting president faces off against a former president. The fact that one of them is a convicted felon, rapist and fraud and charged with espionage in a separate case is a mark of disgrace that will haunt America for generations.
This debate should not be happening at all and not just because the sound of Donnie's voice makes me want to punch Ailing Cannon in the face.
The President of the United States should NOT be elevating a convicted felon to a position of parity, the media has already done a stellar job of that.
Since he came down Trump Tower's golden escalator in 2015, American media has made Donnie a daily staple of the 24-hour news cycle. At this point, him actually shooting someone on 5th Avenue might not even raise eyebrows.
The NRA might even donate a few million to his campaign if he does it with an AR-15 assault rifle fitted with a 400-round per minute bump stock.
Donnie has no policies to debate, only grievances to air and we've heard them all before. To say that he is a pathological liar is like saying that Taylor Swift has potential. Why give him a national platform as if he is a reasonable choice for the guy who can start a nuclear war?
Like all debates, both sides will claim victory and they will both be wrong.
Someone not keenly interested in the debate, watching it with the sound muted, might look up and note that the guy on the right (Biden) looks a little sluggish, while the guy on the left (Trump) will look more animated, energetic and vibrant.
Not the best split screen for Team Biden.
With no live audience to cheer him on and energize him and a muted microphone to cut off his mindless rants, Donnie may actually appear more, dare I say presidential than some might expect.
Tonight's debate and the one in September will only serve to further undermine trust in our institutions and our ability to accept truth as non-debatable. The election in November, however, could be the final nail in the coffin of American-style democracy.
Republicans have made it clear that they will not accept a Biden victory in November and there is no reason to doubt them. They have numerous tools in their bag of dirty tricks and have outlined several strategies to reinstate their fuhrer to power.
139 representatives and 8 senators voted to overturn the 2020 election and that was after most of them spent the day hiding in corners and quaking in their boots as Trump's mob of miscreants threatened their very lives.
Now that they've had time to rewrite history and normalize January 6, 2021 as just another day of patriots visiting the Capitol, it seems highly unlikely that ANY Republican would certify a Biden victory, lest they follow the paths of Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney.
A new poll released yesterday suggests that up to 16% of the electorate could be swayed by this debate. Color me skeptical and keep in mind that poll is a 4-letter word.
What we are doing tonight feels like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. It wouldn’t surprise me if James Cameron was directing.
He’s the one who said, I’m the king of the world!
