Have Christians been groomed for this very moment in history?
Did they just run out of patience?
The birth of Christianity marked a return to reverence for a singular human, a pagan-style belief like the Romans had for their emperors.
It's not a coincidence that the architect of the New Testament and modern Christianity was the Roman Emperor Constantine, who resolved conflict between followers of Jesus by declaring him to be the son of God.
A straightforward lineage from God to Jesus to Constantine.
Most Christians and theologians will tell you that Christianity, like Judaism and Islam is a monotheistic religion, but that doesn't explain the Father, the Son and Beetlejuice stuff.
Islam too, misses the monotheistic mark with undue reverence for its prophet. Blaspheming Muhammad can earn one a death sentence, just ask Salman Rushdie.
Symbology is important in all religions. Jews have three main symbols; the Star of David, the mezuzah, which is attached to doorframes and worn as a necklace and the ever popular, 18 carat gold chai.
The Star of David symbolizes the shield that David (of David and Goliath fame) designed to allow him to peek out from behind it when facing enemies. The mezuzah contains a simple prayer, reminding the children of Israel that that the Lord is their only God.
Chai means life and it's not so much a symbol of Judaism as it is an identification with and motto of a people who take every opportunity to celebrate life.
Shame is not implied in the religion in any way, it's just something Jewish mothers seem to have seized upon as a tool of child-rearing.
Christians have a cross to bear, which symbolize a miserable way to die. It's a visual reminder of the sacrifice a guy made for people who would not be born for thousands of years. It's a subtle prod to keep Christians mindful, guilty and indebted.
Jewish holidays tend to celebrate a shared history and important milestones. Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement reaffirms a devotion to God and to each other.
Christianity's two main holidays are focused on one man. Christmas, inexplicably in December, celebrates the birth of Christ and Easter celebrates his return from the dead. Most of the holidays in between are reminders of Christ's life, death and suffering.
Christians have been waiting 2,000 years for the return of their savior and they have run out of patience. It's 2:00 AM, the bar is closing and they’re going home with anyone drunk enough to take them.
Many would-be saviors have come before Trump; Jim Jones, David Koresh and Marshall Applewhite to name a few. The suicide deaths of over 900 of Jones's followers gave us the drank-the-Kool-Aid expression, while other cults vanished in blazing farmhouses or hails of gunfire.
As OG Star Wars fans, many of us are familiar with the necessity of suspending disbelief to thoroughly enjoy the Star Wars experience. Exiting the theater, however, we straighten our critical thinking caps, something Trumpanzees seem to have replaced with MAGA hats.
In their desperation for a savior, Trumpanzees have found a way to live in a state of perpetual suspension of disbelief. They never seem to tire of Donnie's whining, his claims of persecution and that he did nothing wrong, that his phone calls were perfect.
They greedily accept his Jesus juxtaposition.
Donnie tells them that he was indicted for them and then offers them signed Bibles with the image of an American flag for $60. That is twisted on so many levels, the least of which is Donnie's endorsement of the word of God.
For whom, exactly was Donnie indicted? Over 1,200 Jan 6 assholes were charged with crimes they actually committed, despite the improbable claim of an improbable presidential candidate that they were just there to kiss the Capitol police.
Of the 70 million people who voted for Trump in 2020, it's unlikely that any of them stole documents detailing America's military preparedness. NONE of them were indicted for anything having to do with classified documents, trying to hide an extramarital affair to influence an election, inciting a riot or trying to get a secretary of state to lie about ballot counts.
Kayleigh McEnany, a self-described Christian, who in 2015 called Trump a racist, hateful and not the American way, then became his press secretary and now says that she wants her daughter to grow up in Trump's America is the poster girl for the mass hysteria and self-serving hypocrisy afflicting America.
The list of Republicans who condemned Donnie on January 6, 2021 and now sing his praises is long and undistinguished. They are the voices on Fox, Newsmax, OAN and other pro-Putin, anti-democracy propaganda machines, extolling the godliness of Trump and cursing evil, baby-eating Democrats.
This election is fraught with ambiguity. Trump world thinks third party candidate, Bob Kennedy will be President Biden’s spoiler, while the entire Kennedy clan posed on the White House steps in support of President Biden.
Former Attorney General Bill Barr, who LIED about the Mueller Report to protect Donnie, then spent the last two years trashing him for his role on January 6, 2021 now says that he will vote for Donnie, no matter how many convictions he racks up between now and November.
It's all inconceivable, but here's the real problem. Even if Donnie loses in November - even if he dies tomorrow - those crazy Trumpanzees aren't going away. They are pro-strongman, anti-American, anti-immigrant...anti-everything and they are angry.
Who will step into the breach, lead the leaderless and get them to believe the unbelievable?
If I wore one, I might throw my hat into that ring. I've got some free time and I can lie with a straight face if the need arises. I'm just not going to wear that stupid red hat.
Oh, absolutely. I see, speak, hear me evil. I don’t speak of my disbelief to anyone nor do I criticize anyone for what they believe. Religion is a growing problem. Look at what the Cristi Fascists are doing to women in our own country. Like I said, it’s all exhausting being on the outside, looking in and shaking my head…
I enjoy you writing.
Joe
Religion is exhausting. I don’t believe in any of it. It’s all bullshit.
