As I was finishing this piece, our very corrupt, lawless Supreme Court released the not surprising news that they were reinstating a monarchy in America. I will get to that when my head stops throbbing, but it turns out that Richard Nixon gets the last laugh, after all.
As he told David Frost in 1977, “When the president does it that means it’s not illegal." And now back to our previously scheduled blog.
BY NOW, most of us have (hopefully) recovered from the punch in the gut we suffered last Thursday night. Readers have expressed feelings of despair, helplessness and hopelessness.
Life is messy and these trials and the upcoming election are about the messiest things I've ever seen. Thursday night may have increased that mess by an order of magnitude.
The performances of both candidates were stunning, although Trump's rampage of lies was as predictable as sunrise. It's all but impossible to debate a shameless, pathological liar with a bump stock mouth firing lies in such rapid succession that that no reasonable person could know where to begin a counter attack.
Unfortunately, President Biden was unable to rebut some of the major lies, like the GOP talking point that illegals are receiving Social Security payments or Trump's blooper that he spoke to Putin after the invasion of Ukraine, during which Putin told Trump that conquering Ukraine was his dream.
More amazing than President Biden's near-unconscious performance Thursday night was his dramatic rebound the next day in Raleigh, NC, where he came out like the fiery brawler from Scranton, PA that we’ve come to know.
A dear and beloved reader in Boca Raton, FL asked me right after the debate what I though about the future of America. At an unusual loss of words, I could only reply, What future?
My daughter thinks that my writing is too hyperbolic and I actually wish that she was right. Unfortunately, we live in a world where we believe the reality of reality TV shows and dismiss the realities outside our doors.
It's not hyperbolic when the warnings are written in neon green and it's not hyperbolic when it all comes to pass.
Would Trump's Secretary of the Treasury, Kid Rock reissue thousand dollar bills, featuring Trump's strange hair? It's definitely possible, but that wouldn't even make the top ten list of very bad, terrible things to expect from a second Trump presidency.
Bill Kristol is a conservative (neocon) writer and commentator who once served as Chief of Staff to then-Vice President Dan Quayle in the good old days when misspelling the word potato was a major scandal.
Kristol has that uppity, I-went-to-Harvard smirk which I hate almost as much as his politics. Mr. Kristol, however is a born-again human, eschewing the Republican Party and rocking a Never Trump t-shirt (metaphorically speaking).
On Sunday, Kristol said something that caught my attention. Lauding President Biden's most impressive achievements during his first three years, Kristol conceded that Thursday night's (non) performance was an unmitigated disaster, possibly fatal to the Biden campaign. He suggested that the Democratic Party - and President Biden - have some serious and urgent soul searching to do and stepping aside has to be an option for both to consider.
Kristol made clear though, that on a Biden-Trump ballot, he would be voting for President Biden. That, sports fans is the state of our union.
Right now Never Trump status is reserved for Republicans and former Republicans, like Kristol, Michael Steele, Nicolle Wallace, Joe Scarborough, etc, but that tent needs to be more inclusive.
Regardless of the condition of our current president or any other candidate the Dems might put forth, America needs to be convinced that EVERYONE needs to be a Never Trumper.
Nobody can afford to sit this one out. A vote for Trump's opponent, whomever that may be is vote for the America that we are about to celebrate on July 4th.
Anything else is another straw on the camel's back and with this Supreme Court, that camel is about to collapse.
If you love the freedom and opportunity of this great country, vote Blue.
If you love your children, your grandchildren and those yet to come; if you want them to grow up in a world where they can breath clean air, drink clean water, vote, speak their minds without fear, value women and people not at all like them and where we love our children more than we love our guns, vote Blue.
And tell your friends.
I do believe that this is going to push us to the edge of civil war.
Sorry Bob, but I don’t think voting is really going to g to be effective this time around. I really do believe that “the fix is in”. No matter how many votes Biden wins by, the fascist states will use their newly manufactured state election laws to steal the election, withhold electoral college votes, and force the fascist congress to choose the president. If that doesn’t work, they will have the aforementioned corrupt SCOTUS choose, as they did in 2001.
No, voting won’t work. If our democracy is worth fighting for, you better learn to shoot. I fear that is the direction in which we are heading.
I am not going to roll over for any fascist anywhere, ever.
